Two-part MND-NET center at University Hospital Aachen: (1) Institute for Neuropathology directed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. J. Weis (Reference Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases at the German Society for Neuropathology / DGNN), receiving 1,500+ muscle/nerve/skin biopsy submissions annually with electron microscopy on ~200 NM cases/year. Deputy Director: Jun.-Prof. Dr. J. Bremer; Consultant: Dr. I. Katona. (2) Neuromuscular Outpatient Clinic led by PD Dr. med. Robert Brunkhorst with Dr. Dohrn and Dr. Gausmann. Dr. Dohrn's research focuses on new disease gene discovery and trial readiness biomarkers. Dr. Brunkhorst researches sphingolipid metabolism in ALS. Part of Neuromuscular Centre North Rhine and European Reference Network for Rare Diseases (ERN-NMD).
